About Me

Hello!  Thanks for visiting…

My name is Bob Toohey, and I live in the Puget Sound area.

The classical essayist Michel de Montaigne wrote Every man has within himself the entire human condition”.  My intent with this site is to offer my personal reflections on the complex relationship between my inner and outer experiences, and the impact they have on each other.

In the process, I hope to stir up your own personal reflections, prompting dialogue along the way.

I am learning that a full life is one that stays open and receptive to the hidden ground of ultimate reality, a reality I call God.

In the process I am discovering more and more how I am connected to you, and that I must work at staying aware of that connection.

Enjoying a fulfilling and satisfying life requires intentionality, openness, and flexibility. While my desire for that is always propelling me forward, the practice of it is anything but smooth and direct.  I slip, I slide, I stumble, I skin me knees, sometimes sprain an ankle or wrist–but then I get up because of some inner force that propels me towards more.

Hence the title “Falling Forward“.

The subtitle  “Hidden Ground” is a metaphor of being supported and sustained by something ineffable, something beyond my knowledge, skills, abilities, and resources.

Growing in awareness of this “hidden ground” is the underlying theme of these reflections.

I am indebted to the worlds wisdom literature, from Job to Jesus, and from Bill Wilson to Charles Shultz. I look forward to sharing with you how I am “falling forward”  into ever-surprising  dimensions of  life.

I warmly invite you to join me as we stumble together–to learn how to live gently and well.

I’m thrilled to join you in your journaling journey, Bob. I would term the hidden ground where I fall forward as my heart. Thank you for your invitation.

I welcome your response and comments
