Hummingbird Frenzy

I filled the hummingbird feeder today-Who told them to come and drink?

I  filled the feeder to the brim, then sat back to watch.

How did they get word?

There was no advertising; I did not Promote. No social media.

First one came, hovering, the long needle beak feeding fast and hard, its ruby neck pulsating with every gulp.

Then came more, fighting each other off. Why?

Once there was nothing; now there is plenty – Hard, fast-acting energy to supply what they need. Now they compete over abundance.

One hovered within an inch of my face, and Chirped “thank you”. The others fought over plenty.

The Stock Market hit new highs this week, as politicians fought over how little to help the poor.

I wish we could be better than hummingbirds.

I want to fly up to the nose of my maker and say, ” Thank you. You have given me enough.”

I’ve been thinking these days about what pleases the Lord. Ephesians 5:10, says, “Find out what pleases the Lord.” I found the answer in Psalm69:30, which reads,” ” I will praise God’s name in song, and glorify Him with Thanksgiving. This will please the Lord…”May we learn from God’s creation how to praise and please God by thankgiving!Amen.
